"About Us" BCLC knows that we are the best of the best - but don't take our word for it! Here are some testimonies from prior students... Testimonial 1 "I want to thank you for the opportunity you have given me to go further in my career by teaching me invaluable computer skills. I've enjoyed learning in such a relaxed environment with such a knowledgeable staff that I have gone on to take two more classes. I recommend taking a class to anyone, any age or skill level because you could always learn something new." ~N.M. Testimonial 2 "The fact that I am creating, saving, and then attaching this word document to an e-mail I am sending to Mr. Ballard says it all about his teaching abilities! Two years ago this then 40 year old, completely computer illiterate guy, signed up for a computer introduction course taught by Mr. Ballard. I did not even know how to turn a computer on or off at that point! My wife liked to tease me about it, as I had to ask her to do computer things for me. The class contained a diverse group of people from their 20’s through their 70’s, of differing abilities. Mr. Ballard always took the time to connect with each individual until they understood the topic being discussed. More than that, he made class fun and interesting. I can honestly say with admiration for Mr. B that it was the only class in my life that I actually looked forward to each week! I have a pile of notes I took in his class that I still occasionally reference. I highly recommend Mr. Ballard's classes to any and all people who want a positive computer learning experience." ~R.D. Testimonial 3 "Hello Mr. B, As a former student of your computer class I have nothing but good things to say about you as a teacher. Your classes were well explained, you had a lot of patience with the students that ask questions... also the way you taught us following the steps from the book and more. Because of that I strongly recommend you as a Computer Instructor." ~C.C.
Testimonial 4 "Dear Mr.B, I am sitting at my computer sending you an e-mail right now . I am able to do that and a variety of other things because of the computer class you taught . Your sense of humor and teaching style made me eager to attend each class . Thank you for sharing your knowledge of computers with me." ~T.B. Testimonial 5 "Mr. B is one of the best, if not the very best, instructor of any class that I've ever attended. He was always attentative, considerate, and approachable. Mr. B was always open to new ideas and suggestions. I found Mr. B's class to be a very comfortable, inviting atmosphere, largely due to his three-fold method of teaching. (1) VISUAL: where he would write it out, on the dry-erase board, illustrations of whatever lesson he was covering. (2) AUDIO: listening to Mr. B as he would explain, in detail, computer setups and terminology that would further enhance his visual illustrations. Last, but not least, (3) HANDS-ON: when every classroom student would get the opportunity to familiarize themselves with the feel and functions of various computer parts (i.e. USB ports, keyboards, motherboards, etc.,) to finally and fully drive home each lesson. Mr. B's three-fold method of teaching... enabled me to incorporate "troubleshooting" methods, which enabled me to maneuver through variuos computer problems. Mr. B never made you feel stupid; if I still didn't learn or grasp a concept that the rest of the class already learned, he patiently allowed me to show him the areas that I was having trouble with understanding, and with his three-fold methodology, the visual, audio, and hands-on, he would sit with me and work with me until he could see that I was grasping the concept successfully. Mr. B was the same way with everybody in the class, and when a student finally successfully incorporated a new concept (after days of trouble with it), he always rendered sincere, enthusiastic praises about them to the rest of the class. Mr. B never allowed us to feel inadequate. If I was discouraged, Mr. B made me and others feel that we were all in this together, regardless of how much any of us did or didn't know, which encouraged all of us as we celebrated one anothers' successes together. Mr. B really nurtured my desire to learn more. I feel less intimidated, even confident, about approaching computers or getting on the internet. For that, I owe all of my gratitude to Mr. B." ~J.C~
| Our Mission The mission of Ballard Computer Learning Center, incorporated in 2007, is to intensify the importance of enhancing computer educational skills for the residents of the southern New England area. Our Vision We want our students to acknowledge their experience at BCLC as "The Ideal Educational Experience." It is our vision to see that our employees and volunteers look forward to coming to work each day. Students will be able to tell friends and neighbors that attending BCLC is the best decision they have ever made. We want students to voice their pride in being members of BCLC. Bottom line, we want the community as a whole to view BCLC as an indispensable resource. ~Board of Directors~
| The Birth Of BCLC BCLC was founded based upon a desire to continue educating the Newport County resident members in the area of Information Technology. Mr. B, President and Co-Founder, began his teaching carreer as a volunteer with the H.O.P.E. VI Community Computer Learning Center in 2005. After realizing Mr. B's potential, the Housing Authority of the City of Newport hired him as the Neighborhood Networks Coordinator in December of the same year. The hard work and determination of Mr. B had begun to make a real serious impact on the lives of individuals as well as entire families in the low-income community. Mr. B realized that he could exceed the level of a computer instructor and as a result several individuals, including himself, gave birth to Ballard Computer Learning Center. |
